Google DeepMind is the combination of Google Brain and DeepMind, created in 2023 to consolidate Google's AI research. It is responsible for the Gemini model family (competing directly with GPT-4o), AlphaFold (protein structure prediction), AlphaCode (competitive programming), and Imagen (image generation). Through Google Cloud, these models are available as enterprise APIs. Google also holds a major stake in Anthropic, making it a backer of both the #1 and #2 ChatGPT competitors.
